Shanghai Stationary “Red Crown Crane”
In Eastern China, where mountains seem to kiss the sky and rivers meander through the landscape like silver ribbons, lives a symbol of elegance and wisdom: the red crowned crane.
This majestic animal is not only a magnificent example of nature, but also a deeply rooted element of Chinese culture and tradition.
The black and white crane, with its long, slender legs and graceful flight, is often depicted in Chinese art and literature. The bird’s red crown, which only appears on males in mating season, symbolises good fortune and immortality. In ancient Chinese mythology, the crane is often associated with the gods and higher life. It is believed that these birds are the bridge between earth and heaven, and can fulfil people’s wishes.
The crane represents longevity and therefore painted and written about countless times.
In poetry, the crane is often used as a metaphor for the human soul and the quest for enlightenment. The elegance of its flight and the beauty of its appearance invite reflection and contemplation.
These birds, which are amongst the largest of its species, are listed as endangered because of a decreasing poulation, especially in China, where the main threads are habitat loss and ecosystem decay.
